We are pleased to announce our upcoming Paris exhibitions: Hernan Bas,
Johan Creten, Pieter Vermeersch at Perrotin Marais and HEALING, a group exhibition curated by Takashi Murakami at Perrotin Matignon. The gallery will also participate in Asia Now Art Fair for the first time. We will open exceptionally our private showroom at 60 rue de Turenne to present our FIAC booth, from Wednesday, October 21 to Sunday, October 25. Perrotin is also pleased to participate in Le Pari(s), La Semaine de l’Art alongside more than 200 galleries of Greater Paris as a part of the Night of Galleries, which will take place on Thursday, October 22 and with exceptional opening on Sunday, October 25. Also on view: Daniel Arsham’s solo show at Musée Guimet and soon Laurent Grasso at Musée d’Orsay.

Creature Comforts is the gallery’s fifth exhibition with American painter Hernan Bas, featuring thirteen new paintings the artist has created since March at his Miami studio. A sense of poetic tension prevails the works Bas painted in various scales that range from larger-than-life to intimate, reflecting the broad palette of sentiments experienced by his paintings’ protagonists.

Pioneer of the ceramics’ rebirth in contemporary art, Johan Creten is back with his exhibition named Entracte, his fourth solo show at the Parisian gallery. This exhibition can be considered as a symbolic pause. It’s an invitation to reflection and a way to take a deep breath. With Entracte the artist underlines the importance of beauty in his work, while reaffirming his humanist consciousness and the social and political resonance of his practice. This exhibition is built as a dialogue with I Peccati, his monographic exhibition at the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici.

For his sixth exhibition with the gallery, Belgian Turino-based artist Pieter Vermeersch will gather an unseen series of works. Following a solo presentation at the M museum of Leuven in Belgium, the artist comes back to Paris with new marble works alongside a series of gradient paintings characteristic of his practice as well as various spatial interventions.

Healing explores the multifaceted and eccentric universe that is Superflat and the far-reaching and deep influence of Japanese ceramic arts in the context of Bubblewrap. Where in the West art is predicated on the differences between ‘highbrow’ and ‘lowbrow’ culture, ‘original’ and ‘derivative,’ ‘art’ and ‘commodity,’ Superflat establishes itself as an independent lineage of Japanese contemporary art that roots itself in anime and manga.

Invited by the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts to participate in a Carte Blanche reimagining of the museum, American artist Daniel Arsham will present a new suite of to-scale sculptures based on iconic works from Antiquity. Activating the vast collection of molds at the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais (RMN), this new body of work will be featured in the permanent collection of the museum. The exhibition will be complemented by a blue zen garden: a site specific installation that will occupy the fourth-floor rotunda beneath the dome of the main Guimet building.

Musée d'Orsay
Laurent Grasso has created a new film for the exhibition The Origins of the World: The Invention of Nature in the 19th Century, which will be screened as an installation between two towers at the back of the main nave. His research and study crystallized around the grand architecture of the venue (a former train station) and the major transformations throughout the 19th century, an era characterized by electricity, beliefs in progress and science—subjects at the heart of Laurent Grasso’s own work. He specially created the film for this autumn, which dialogues with the museum as an ensemble, and is projected in the back of the nave on an LED screen, tailored to the monumental scale of the Musée d'Orsay.

Curated by Noëlle Tissier, the exhibition I Peccati brings together, for the first time and with such breadth in Italy, a collection of fifty-five works by the artist, in bronze, ceramic and resin. They will be reunited and juxtaposed to some historical works by Lucas Van Leyden (1494-1533), Hans Baldung (1484-1545), Jacques Callot (1592-1635), Barthel Beham (1502-1540) and Paul van Vianen (1570–1614), milestones underlying Johan Creten’s thinking. The sculptures of Johan Creten made especially for the exhibition between 2019 and 2020 added to the pieces that punctuate his journey from the 80s to the present day, are associated here with 16th and 17th century prints, tapestries and bas-reliefs from his personal collection. These historical works summoned by the artist are a real reference in his creative process. They reveal his concerns, be they artistic, historical, political or philosophical.

This exhibition is a dialogue between the work of two artists with common inspirations and influences. Takashi Murakami discovered the work of Michel Majerus a few years ago, which would profoundly influence his practice. Both artists are inspired by their daily lives, formed by new forms of entertainment and street culture. They foreshadow the current global fascination of these "geek" or "nerd" cultures which are slowly creeping into the art world - or, judging by Instagram or other social media, already dominating it. The works by Takashi Murakami presented in Michel Majerus’ former studio in Berlin first premiered at the Singapore Tylor Print Institute in 2019 at the From Superflat to Bubble Wrap exhibition.
